From the Sunset Marina family, happy 4th of July!

Today was a much slower day at the docks than we have seen in recent weeks, but that isn’t without boats going out and bringing some meat back to the docks!

‘No Slack’ fished the Fingers, returning with 2 Dolphin, and the Buckshot also fished the ‘Lumpy Bottom’ and brought back 4 Dolphin and 1 Yellowfin. ‘My Cin’ returned back around 7:30, brining back 2 Golden Tilefish and 2 Dolphin from the Washington.

All of the boats are gearing up for the upcoming Tuna Tournament, and we wish all of our anglers the best of luck!

With the last day of the OCMC Canyon Kick-Off wrapped up there was certainly some action at the scales!  The highlight definitely had to be the 125lb yellowfin caught aboard the “Brenda Lou”!  Full tournament results can be seen on the Marlin Club website later on this evening.

With the Bluefin bite slacking off inshore, our boats red out to the canyons in search for White Marlin and Yellowfin tuna!  In the Poormans the “Blood Money” had a great day with a mix of 5 dolphin, 2 yellowfin, 1 wahoo and 2 white marlin releases!  “Buckshot” caught 5 dolphin and the “C-Boys” released a white marlin and caught 1 yellowfin fishing  in between the Poormans and Washington.  Fishing in the Washington the “Tighten Up”brought back 8 dolphin to the docks.  “Marli” went inshore and picked up a Bluefin and then ran out and caught 4 dolphin in the Washington.  However you are spending your holiday tomorrow we here at Sunset hope you stay safe and enjoy!

With day two of the OCMC Canyon Kick-Off today we had some boats on the hunt to place some quality fish!  From what I saw it looked like there were a lot of fish being weighed in down at the scales so make sure you check out the Marlin Clubs website to see the tournament updates.  For our boats fishing today the same story is being told, there are Bluefin’s inshore and you are still able to pick up some quality Yellowfin while releasing a ton and some White Marlin out in the Canyons.  Fishing in the Hambone was the “Marli” picking up a quality Bluefin and the “No Quarter” picked up a Bluefin and ran out and released two White Marlins!  “Osprey” stayed inshore at the Massey’s and caught 3 dolphin and 1 Yellowfin.  Venturing out to the Washington was the “Absolute Pleasure” who managed to catch 2 Yellowfin and 1 Dolphin,  “White Lighting” had a great day catching 2 Yellowfin, 1 Dolphin and 2 White Marlin!  The “Griffin” released a White Marlin in the Baltimore as well.

As you can see the White Marlin’s are starting to show and we are also seeing a good amount of Blue Marlin releases as well.  As keeper Yellowfins are thin right now the boats are releasing a lot of undersized fish to keep the rods bent and picking up quality dolphin.  Day 3 of the Canyon Kick-Off is tomorrow to wrap things up this holiday weekend so there is still tons of action going on around the marina!  Make sure you come grab a drink at Teasers and see all the action live!

As June has passed and July is upon us we now look forward to tournament time!  Today kicked off the Ocean City Marlin Clubs Canyon Kick-Off and we had a lot of boats out on the hunt for tuna.  Fishing definitely slowed down but we had two monster catches hit the scales.  Early this afternoon we had a 94lb Cobia caught by an 9 year old angler!  Cobia’s aren’t a real targeted species off these waters and to catch a monster like this is a real treat!  With the fishing being slow, we caught whisper that the “Pumpin Hard” had a monster Wahoo coming in and no doubt it was weighing in at 102lbs!  The crew caught this stud along with a White Marlin down in the Washington.  “Boss Hogg” managed to find some Yellowfins down in the Washington bringing home 6 and the “Reel Chaos” did some deep dropping for 13 Tilefish and 7 Sea Bass.

Hopefully fishing picks up the next couple days but if you want to come see the Marlin Club weigh ins stop by between 5pm-7pm to catch some excitement!

As the month of June starts coming to an end the fishing action continues here at the docks!  The boats that went out today were in a mix of different fishing locations but they all had successful days.  The “Boss Hogg” came in with 2 bluefin tuna, 5 yellowfin tuna and had a blue marlin release in the Poormans.  Fishing with them in the Poormans was the “Espadon” returning with 4 yellowfin tuna, 1 bluefin tuna, and 2 dolphin.  The “Fish Tricks” were fishing in the hot dog and had 4 Bluefin tuna, and 1 dolphin.  “Marli” set out for the Chicken bone today and brought back 4 bluefin tuna, and a dolphin.  Finally the “White Lightning” tried out the hambone and caught one bluefin tuna they then headed to the Washington Canyon where they caught 2 yellowfin tuna, and 2 dolphin.  The holiday weekend is quickly approaching, don’t miss out on the fishing action!  Call the marina office at 410-213-9600 to book your next charter!

With the final day of the Small Boat Tournament along with the MSSA Tunament, we had a lot of boats take advantage of the break in the weather and head out to the Poormans canyon.  The fishing seemed to slack off however with the fish seeming to be driven down due to the amount of boats out there.  With that said, it was still decent fishing starting with “C-Boys” returning with 2 yellowfin,  “Osprey” had 4 yellowfin and 5 dolphin,  “Fish Tricks” was able to mange to get 7 yellowfin and 1 dolphin,  “My Cin” came back with 4 yellowfin (released 15), 4 gaffer dolphin,  “Marli” returned with 2 yellowfin,  “Billfisher” hit the docks with 4 yellowfin,  “Boss Hogg” returned with 6 dolphin and 1 yellowfin,  “Three J’s” returned home with a mix of 1 wahoo caught by 8 year old Jace, 1 white marlin release and 1 dolphin!

Different day, same report…the tunas are snapping!!  The weather was a little snotty today with the wind blowing hard NE throughout the early morning but the boats that could get out had great success!  All of the action was again down in the Poormans with the boats still catching the majority of their yellowfin in the 40-50lb weight class.  “Pumpin Hard” had a mix of 10 yellowfin, 1 dolphin and 2 white marlin releases!  “Tighten Up” returned by 2pm with a boat full of 2 bigeyes, 13 yellowfin and 8 dolphin.  “Marli” only had 3 anglers but managed to wrangle in 14 yellowfin and 1 dolphin.  “Boss Hogg” put their charter on the meat returning with 17 yellowfin and 5 dolphin.  “Chasin Tail” had the rod bent as well hitting the docks with 3 yellowfin and 10 dolphin.

With the final day of the Small Boat Tournament along with the MSSA Tunament, we expect a lot of boats fishing tomorrow so stay tuned for their report!  If you are in the area make sure you stop by the docks to see all the action as well.

Despite the rough weather, a few boats went out in search of some big fish- and the Marli and Espadon didn’t disappoint! The ‘Marli’ fished the Baltimore, returning with 17 Yellowfin, 2 Dolphin, and 4 Big Eye Tuna’s.

As for the ‘Espadon’, they brought 18 Yellowfin and 9 Dolphin back to the docks from the Poor Man’s.

We only had the “Marli” fish out of the marina today and they continue to pile up fish in the box bringing back 13 yellowfin and 1 dolphin fishing in the Baltimore.  Don’t forget this weekend is the Ocean City Marlin Clubs Small Boat Tournament with weigh ins right here at the marina along with the MSSA Tunament which weigh ins will be at Atlantic Tackle.  These tournaments were rescheduled from last weekend, and with fishing being hot they should have a good turnout!
