With Tropical Storm Hermine behind us the fleet has been itching to get back out to the deep to see where the fish are.  The only boat to fish out of the marina today was the “Marli” who ventured down to the Washington Canyon and was rewarded with 3 white marlin releases, 1 blue marlin release and 31 dolphin!  Capt. Mark said the seas really laid out in the afternoon to make for a beautiful day!

As the tournament season is over we will get back to normal charter fishing operations along with many boats taking advantage of the great white marlin bite that occurs over the course of September.  The fishing season is far from over here out of Ocean City so if you are looking to get a trip in, now is the time to book.  There is plenty of marlins, mahi, and tunas out there to make your trip memorable so make sure you contact the marina office or visit our charter directory to see our first class charter fleet!

As we prepare for Tropical Storm Hermine to affect us this weekend we had a couple boats brave the seas and get one more day of fishing in.  The “Reel Chaos” fished the Baltimore and released 6 white marlin while the “Artemis” was in the same spot and released 5 white marlin!  Hopefully the weather doesn’t effect fishing as it has been great this past week.

As for this storm, we should see some sustained winds for Saturday and Sunday with rain and a little storm surge.  Boaters we urge you take precaution and double up any lines and tie down any loose equipment on your vessels.  Any lines or products you may need can be purchased at Sunset Provisons throughout this coming weekend.  Stay safe and dry everyone!

The first day of September started off gloomy and rainy but ended with sunny skies as many of our boats returned to the dock with flags flying.  The “Boss Hogg” fished in the Washington today and caught 3 yellowfin and released 2 White Marlin.  Fishing in the Washington with them was the “No Quarter” who returned with 10 yellowfin releases, 10 yellowfin in the box and 1 white Marlin release.  The rest of the fleet was fishing in the Baltimore today.  The “Reel Chaos” had 2 white releases while the “Buckshot” and the “Blood Money” each had 12 White releases.  The “Miss Annie” had both a Blue and a White release and the “Grande Pez” also had a Blue release along with 4 White releases.  Finally the “Billfisher” had 9 White Marlin releases.  We also would like to note that yesterday the crew of the “My Cin” had a great day fishing in the Baltimore returning with 7 White Marlin releases, 1 yellowfin, and 5 dolphin.

With the 25th Mid-Atlantic Tournament under wraps it was yet again another great tournament this year!  We saw some great action at the scales and some awesome catches.  Congratulations to all the winners and participant’s!  A special thank you to the Mid-Atlantic crew for letting us be a co host to this great tournament for another year and we look forward to next year!

With tournament season almost done we get to go back to a little normalcy and the charter boats are soaking up the last fishing days of summer before it shuts down.  It looks like the tuna bite in the Washington kicked off with the following boats fishing there today.  “My Cin” caught 4 yellowfin, “Marli” put 14 yellowfin in the box,  “Fish Tricks” hit the docks with 10 yellowfin and 1 dolphin,  “White Lightning” hit the docks with 5 yellowfin, “Grande Pez” had 3 white releases down there as well.  Marlin fishing stays consistent with the following boats heading out to the Wilmington.  “DA Sea” released 4 white marlin,  “Espadon” caught 8 white marlin and 1 dolphin and “Reel Chaos” released 7 white marlin and 2 dolphin!  There is still great fishing left for the season so call the marina office at 410-213-9600 to book a trip of a lifetime!

The weather is looking unfishable tomorrow so day 1 of the Mid-Atlantic Tournament will most likely be a lay day.  Under the tent there was a lot of action with 157 boats officially signed up between the two ports and over 3 Million in prize money!  It should be another great tournament with giant payouts for the winners!  Good luck to all participants this week!

Fishing today was the “Zipper” with a white marlin release in the Rockpile, “My Cin” caught 3 white marlin below the Washington and the “Marli” had a mix of 1 yellowfin, 16 tilefish, 3 sea bass, 1 golden tile inside the Washington!

It was day one for the Poor Girls Open and we had a bunch of happy ladies return back to the docks!  This is such a great event and Bahia Marina does such a wonderful job raising money for Breast Cancer Awareness!  Out in the canyons it was a dolphin kind of day with the “Marli” putting 11 in the box along with 9 tilefish!  “Osprey” was out there as well and they caught 12 nice dolphin along with releasing 2 white marlin!  “Reel Chaos” went to the Poor Mans and caught 7 dolphin and 25 tilefish.  The next two days will consist of more crews fishing the Poor Girls Open so we are sure to see some pink around the docks!

Don’t forget that next week is the Mid-Atlantic tournament with weigh ins here at Sunset Marina: Monday-Friday, 5pm-9pm.  It is always an action packed tournament with lots of weigh in’s so make sure you stop on by and check it out!

As everyone starts to get back to normal after the long tournament week of the 2016 White Marlin Open we only get a week break until the Mid-Atlantic Tournament starts up.  A little recap of last week is that marlin fishing was as good as it has been in years and our marina had 23/30 of the top release boats in the tournament!  We just want to thank everyone who fished out of Sunset Marina during the week and cant wait until next year!

As normal charter fishing begins to resume it looks like marlins and mahi mahi are in store for right now and there is some decent fishing!  “Marli” fished the Poormans and caught 11 dolphin, 1 yellowfin, and released 3 white marlin!  “Espadon” was in the mix as well catching 4 dolphin 1 yellowfin and released a blue marlin.  “Buckshot” fished the Rockpile and ended up with 25 tilefish, 7 sea bass, 1 dolphin and released 1 white marlin!  If you are looking to get in on some marlin fishing along with a mix of meat fish now is the time to go so call our marina office at 410-213-9600 or visit our charter directory on our website to book your  trip of a lifetime!

As most of our White Marlin Open boats have arrived it was a busy day around the docks!  It is amazing how in one day things can get chaotic but in a good way!  We didn’t receive many fishing reports but the marlin bite seems to be consistent with boats coming in with flags flying.  “My Cin” went overnight in the Wilmington and returned back with 9 white marlin releases, 1 dolphin and released a 300lb hammerhead shark!  Tomorrow will consist of last minute preparations for Monday and the last of our tournament boats should be arriving!

Another busy day on the docks as Day 1 of the Ocean City Marlin Clubs Heel & Reels Tournament kicked off with weigh ins over at Atlantic Tackle!  We had both boats fishing that tournament along with fun fishing to get their team ready for Monday.  The good news is that marlin fishing right now is fantastic and the bite is even moving closer off the coast of Ocean City!  The good piece of water was up over 100 miles away a couple days ago and is now up on the tip of the Wilmington Canyon which is roughly 75-80 miles away!  Fishing the Heels & Reels Tournament was the “Osprey” who released 6 white marlin in the Spencer and the “Brenda Lou” caught 9 white marlin in the Wilmington!  Most of the boats marlin fishing today had between 5-8 releases and we saw up to 15 releases!  I cannot remember when the marlin bite was this good leading into the White Marlin Open so it should make for a record tournament if fishing stays this good!  If you plan on being in the area this coming week make Harbor Island and Sunset Marina a must stop for all the tournament action!

Things are in full swing around the marina as our White Marlin Open boats slowly start to roll in and we are getting that tournament feel around the docks!  As a lot of the boats make their final preparations for next week, we are still having our regular charter boats head out with success.  “White Lightning” fished in the Baltimore and picked up 3 nice yellowfin and 4 dolphin.  In the Massey’s the “Marli” put 3 yellowfin and 1 dolphin in the box with the “Boss Hogg” matching those numbers!  “My Cin” fished in the Poormans and put his charter on a box full of sea bass and tilefish.  If you are looking to put some meat in the box there is still some tunas out there to be caught with us seeing us a nice class of 50lb fish hitting the docks today!

As many of you probably know the marlin fishing up north is still red hot!  We had multiple boats tough out the 100 mile ride up in-between the Spencer and Lindekohl Canyons for multiple releases.  “Reel Chaos” had a great day releasing 8 white marlin, “Billfisher” released 8 white marlin and 1 blue marlin, “Makara” released 10 white marlin as well.  “Reel Joy” stopped in the Spencer Canyon and released 3 white marlin, and caught 1 yellowfin and 2 dolphin!  “Pumpin Hard” was just above the Wilmington and released 6 white marlin today.  It is a hike to get to these fish but this time of year you cannot pass up on this kind of marlin fishing!  It looks like with the calmer weather tomorrow a lot of our tournament boats are going to get some trial runs in so we should see more flags flying!

With the hot white marlin bite up north in the Lindenkohl Canyon we had a couple boats head back up there in search of double digit releases!  “Game On” returned with 10 white marlin releases and reported 17 bites!    “Pumpin Hard” went down to the Wilmington and had 6 white marlin releases!  With the weather looking better tomorrow it looks like more boats will head up that way even though it is a long boat ride.  Charter fishing today was the “White Lighting” who fished in the Hambone and they landed 1 wahoo, 2 dolphin and 1 yellowfin!  “Marli” was also out there today and they caught 4 dolphin and 2 yellowfin.

Our White Marlin Open boats are slowly starting to trickle in to do last minute oil changes, rigging and preparations for the big show next week.  We have some really pretty boats in here from boat builders all up and down the coast so if you are in the area make sure you take a stroll down the docks and check them out!
